Parish Offers Recylcing Tips - Monday, September 28, 2009

As you travel throughout Terrebonne parish, “Green” activities are abundantly visible. Strategically placed recycling bins have been overwhelmingly popular. In 2010, the parish's goal is to increase the presence of recycling sites.

Here is a list of what should and should not be recycled:

Plastic – Plastic with #1 through #7 inside the triangular-shaped recycling symbol, beverage bottles, bottle caps, food containers (rinsed), detergent bottles, shampoo bottles, prescription bottles. NO Plastic bags, clothes hangers, Styrofoam, toys chemical containers, or plastic wrap.

Metal – Aluminum, tin and metal alloy beverage containers, food and pet food cans including metal lids (empty and rinsed). NO aerosol cans, clothes hangers, aluminum foil or pie pans.

Paper – Junk mail, coupons, gift wrap, envelopes, paper grocery bags, catalogs, magazines, newspapers and inserts (without rubber bans or plastic bags), paperback books, telephone books. NO soiled paper, photos, hard cover books, metal clips or binders, carbon paper.

Cardboard and Cartons – Corrugated and paperboard boxes, drink cartons, paper egg cartons, shoe boxes, juice/milk/cream cartons (rinsed), cereal and cracker boxes (remove liners) – flatten all boxes and cartons. NO pizza boxes, waxed cardboard (boxes, cartons or food packaging), take-out containers.

Please do not bag recyclables, there is absolutely no glass, plastic bags, household garbage, yard trimmings or woody waste, building materials, tires, household hazardous waste including electronics, batteries, paint, chemicals, oil, oil filters, soiled paper, diapers, tissue, paper towels, paper plates or napkins.
