Terrebonne Chamber to hold January 24 banquet

Tickets are on sale for the Houma-Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce’s annual banquet and awards ceremony.

It’s scheduled for 6-9 p.m. Jan. 24 at the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center.

At the banquet, the chamber will recognize its outgoing and incoming officers, give out several awards and recognize Terrebonne’s Teenager of the Year and the recipient of HTV’s Eugene Folse Outstanding Veteran award.

The Courier’s Terrebonne’s Most Useful Citizen for 2017 will also be named.

Terrebonne Parish officials say they have faith a planned regional sports park will be completed and successful, pointing to planned land swaps and hopes for re-establishing some state financing as the basis of their belief.

A task force examining how to speed up construction of the Bayou Country Sports Park says the project is hindered by major inequalities in the local recreational tax system and no overall plan to pay for it.

The newly formed Terrebonne Parish Recreation Steering Committee met for the first time Tuesday afternoon to discuss the economic impact of the parish’s recreation districts, possible sources of upkeep and maintenance money and the need for more oversight for recreation.
